After what seems like years, I have finally been approved by my insurance company for the latest technology in diabetes management. It only took the last few weeks of my pregnancy, bed rest and a specific medication to build a case for me to get a prior authorization approved. I have been upgraded to the newest pump that Medtronic offers, the Revel in the beautiful color pink, and the most exciting part of my new package is the Continous Glucose Monitor (CGM), the iPro. The CGM measures my blood glucose every 5 mins and sends the information to my pump for me to see what is happening without sticking my finger. I do, however, still have to test my blood glucose because the system requires 2 calibrations a day and it's recommended to test before eating to insure an accurate reading. What it will really help with is alerting me if my blood sugar goes too high/low without me knowing, especially during the night or exercising. My appointment is in the morning to start the system, which I can't wait for. Thank you Mr. Aidan Pants (baby on the way) for waiting for the approval of the CGM!
